This evening, as beacons and Lamp Lights of Peace This evening, as beacons and Lamp Lights of Peace shine across the UK, the Union Jack flies proudly above the hotel, just as it did 80 years ago 🇬🇧⁠ ⁠ Requisitioned in 1939, the Green Dragon served Allied Forces throughout WWII, with its cellars converted into air raid shelters. Today, we honour that history and hope ❤️⁠ ⁠ “Together, we honour the past and celebrate a future built on unity, hope, love and peace”.
Today marks the 80th Anniversary of VE Day! 🇬🇧⁠ ⁠ To commemorate this historic occasion, we're raising a glass with a very special serve at the bar.⁠ ⁠ The British Royal, a sparkling celebration of victory! Features British Cassis and British sparkling wine, both crafted at the White Heron Estate here in Herefordshire.⁠ ⁠ During WWII, the Green Dragon was home to Allied Forces and American Intelligence. Today, we raise a glass to peace, history, and hope. 🇬🇧⁠ @whiteherondrinks @whiteheronestate
Today marks the 80th Anniversary of VE Day! 🇬🇧⁠ ⁠ This photo takes us back to May 1945 when celebrations were just beginning in Hereford.⁠ ⁠ The hotel was requisitioned by Allied Forces in 1939, four days after the outbreak of WWII and was supposedly used as a base for American Intelligence services for the duration of the war. The cellars were converted into air raid shelters and metal ceiling plates from this time are still in place today.⁠ ⁠ The Green Dragon Hotel was demobbed in 1946 and returned to regular service in time for the Three Choirs Festival of that year.⁠ ⁠ In the photo, you can spot Union Jacks draped along the balcony and bunting hanging across the street, a joyful sign of celebration. Today, the Union Jack flies proudly at full mast above the hotel, just as it did 80 years ago.⁠
